"Christmas_Florence"Italy is generally known as a Catholic country so it doesn’t come as a surprise that the Christmas season is an important time of the year. Though, we usually think of Florence as a major destination for art and culture of the Renaissance December is a great month to look into Florence apartments for another reason. For Christmas everything in the city gets a bit more magical and romantic.

Christmas Markets

Like many other cities during that time of the year Florence has a Christmas market. In fact, there are several markets and fairs scattered throughout the city. The most well-known market is the Mercato Tedesco di Natale in Piazza Santa Croce. It is the German Christmas market where you can not only get Glühwein, German sausage and strudel, but also local Christmas goodies, pottery and other crafts.

Another interesting place to go to at the beginning of December is the Fierucolina dell’Immacolata, an art and food fair that is held on Piazza Santissima Annunziata where you can buy great products and gift ideas from artisans from the countryside.

Florence Noël is another Christmas fair that is held at Stazione Leopolda that is particularly entertaining for children. This former train station is transformed into the North Pole and all rooms are festively decorated. A highlight is the Villaggio del Cioccolato where they can taste delicious hot chocolate. However, this event often already takes place in November.

Free Concerts

The whole month of December there are many free classical music concerts in the many churches of the city.


Christmas season in Florence is almost unthinkable without the ice-skating rink at the Parterre in Piazza della Libertà. It is a great tradition in the city and ice-skating with Christmas music in the background really gets you in the holiday spirit.

After a fun-filled day there is nothing better than relaxing in apartments in Florence and feel at home.

  1. Nice article. I believe it would be nice to also include Naples as a good destination for your next xmas holidays. In fact, every year San Gregorio Armeno, a famous street in the old town, hosts a quite impressive market where it is possible to see and buy some characters of the nativity, everything handmade…obviously.
