As a new year is approaching we all start to think about some goals and objectives for the coming year, because we want to start the new year as a better version of ourselves. Among the top New Year’s resolutions easily are to quit smoking and losing weight. The second one is tricky due to the holidays. During the holidays we go all out with food and drinks cooking lavish meals and attending one holiday party after another, which at the end often leaves us with a couple of undesirable extra pounds.
The first step is always to have the good intention and acting upon it. If you need a little bit of motivation to get started with some weight loss, maybe a little trip appeals to you. Who says you can’t combine your New Year’s resolution with staying a long weekend in apartments in Madrid.
Why Madrid? Well, in Madrid the new year gets kicked off with San Silvestre Vallecana, a 10k race through the Spanish capital. Celebrated since 1964, the popularity of this race continues to grow. Over 35,000 people participated last year. It’s a big sports event that gathers masses that share a passion for sports, but also people motivated to challenge themselves.
Due to its growing popularity the race has had two competitions for the past couple of years. There is an amateur run in which everybody starting at the age of 16 can participate, but there is also a professional race where the requirement is to prove that you have run a 10k race or participated in last year’s edition. The time expectation for men is under 38 minutes and for women 45 minutes.
San Silvestre Vallecana is not only a race, but it is also an event with great tradition in Madrid that everyone who is up for it can join. The race is accompanied by other entertaining events along the route and some of the participants in the amateur race will run in interesting costumes. After the race you’ll get some well-deserved rest at Madrid apartments. If your New Year’s resolution is to work out more or you just want to get rid of that holiday belly why not run in the San Silvestre Vallecana?
